Rail Case Study
Total Connections was approached by one of the market-leading suppliers to the rail industry to manufacture a heavy duty spring loaded plug and socket. The assembly was to act as a circuit breaker for a larger busbar system, part of the trackside electrification infrastructure being installed around the UK rail network. Each connector has over 60 individual components, many of which have a 25 micron silver coating, with the whole assembly capable of conducting 2000A.
Total Connections was required to perform electrical temperature rise testing and mechanical contact force testing to ensure that the finished connector met the required specifications. As a minimum requirement, throughout the life of the supply contract, contact force testing is required for every batch of 20 connectors. The project is a good example of our capabilities, combining high specification bespoke manufacture with a rigorous QA testing regime.
