Bespoke braid assemblies manufactured by Total Connections

At Total Connections, we are incredibly proud of our extensive range of standard and bespoke busbars and braid assemblies. In fact, simply to say we carry a range of braid assemblies is underselling ourselves somewhat. Our range is largely bespoke, meeting the specific requirements of customers across a number of industries. Rather than a range, we offer a complete bespoke service, providing custom assemblies built to your specifications.

We’ve been doing braids for quite some time, but recently we’ve increased our capacity significantly. We understand the importance of investing in our people and equipment. Regular readers will already be aware that we are in the process of moving to a new site. Our latest major investment package has seen an increase in our braid assembly capabilities. A full suite of additional machinery means we are now equipped to rapidly deliver huge quantities of high-quality bespoke product.

I managed to snap the below image of some bespoke braid assemblies before they were whisked away to far-off lands. Our strong relationships with leading couriers enable us to offer a range of shipping options. This allows even our overseas customers receive a swift and cost effective service.

Why do I need a braid assembly?

Good question. You’ve no doubt enjoyed reading our previous blog on busbars and now have a high level of understanding around why busbars are necessary. Well, imagine all those features, but with the added benefit of the component itself being physically flexible. A busbar cut to shape has it’s place, but a flexible busbar fits around the installation. One huge benefit of a flexible braid assembly is that you can connect two points that don’t necessarily stay in position relative to each other. You may have a metallic structure that has no electrical function in itself, however because it is composed of a conductive material it is subject to electrical conductivity. Fixing a metal pipe, for example, to an earthed structure provides a safe path for any current that is present. Using a rigid busbar for the same application could result in stress damage to the component caused by motion between the two fixing points.

We stock braids suitable for all applications

We stock a variety of types of braid, including flat, round, mesh, and stranded rope. The most commonly used material is copper, which can be either plain or tin-plated. We also supply stainless steel braid, which offers increased durability and flexibility. Flat braid with its larger surface area, is ideal for high-current applications. Round braid offers a more compact solution where space is at a premium. Mesh braids offer great flexibility, allowing them to be installed in complex routing paths whilst still offering a high level of performance. Stranded rope braids, on the other hand, provide a balance between strength and flexibility. This makes them suitable for dynamic environments where movement and vibration are factors.

So whether you’re looking for a standard braid or a custom-designed assembly, Total Connections can guide you through the design and selection process. We invite you to explore the possibilities with us, to see how our braid assemblies are ideally suited to your electrical installations.
