Total Connections offers a range of aluminium alloy mechanical connectors or aluminium lugs designed to facilitate cable termination or jointing with basic hand tools and without the need for crimping.
The mechanical lugs incorporate an integral moisture block and allow termination of round or sector conductors and cables, and brass gauze is supplied to allow termination of copper cables.
Termination is achieved by tightening screws that apply pressure to a contact pad housed within the barrel of the aluminium lug. The screws shear off at the required torque.
The mechanical lugs are suitable for LV/MV applications and meet test specification BS4579 together with short-circuit tests Engineering Recommendation C79.
