Manufacturing Case Study
We were approached by a UK-based foundry, who were operating essential electrical equipment in a very high temperature environment. The lugs that they were using were needing to be replaced every 2 weeks, such was the physical strain placed upon them by high current in a hot location.
The solution was to design very thick-walled lugs, which were machined and pressed from pure C101 copper rod. Due to the high operational temperature, the lugs were left unplated as any plating was likely to fail. The original batch of 50 lugs solved the problem and there has been no need to replace the lugs since installation.
This project was a good example of the problem-solving that is often required for manufacturing and production operations - applying the knowledge and experience of manufacturing environments to provide a solution to an ongoing challenge.
