We have supplied termination and earthing equipment used in nuclear power stations, the national grid, and general power transmission installations including transformers and substations.

We have been approached for our standard ranges as well as a number of bespoke solutions. We provide an in-house design and manufacturing capability to energy generation and distribution companies, capable of providing custom-built products for particular installations. We have a reputation for manufacturing to tight tolerances and the highest of quality. We have supplied into companies such as Scottish Power, EDF, SSE, National Grid, and British Gas.

Energy and Distribution Case Study

Hinkley Point B Power Station, an advanced gas cooled nuclear reactor power station in Somerset, was undertaking renovation work on its support infrastructure for its nuclear reactors. They had an urgent requirement for some non-standard pin lugs and Total Connections was approached to provide a solution.

The pin lugs were oversized - the barrel needed to accommodate a 240sqmm cable entry but required a pin much larger than the standard 14mm diameter. The bespoke pin lug needed a 30mm diameter pin, making the pin diameter larger than the barrel. The in-house design team designed a lug that was machined and plated and delivered with great urgency.

A spare set of bespoke pin lugs was also manufactured to give the engineers some redundancy. Overall, it was a good example of rapid design and manufacture of a bespoke connection for a major energy generation installation.
