TotalConnections2009Â manufacture and stock a range of un-insulated transformer 4-hole terminal lugs.
They are designed for use with power cables up to 3300 volts – the internal barrel diameter being designed for standard cables as defined by BS 6360.
The smaller sizes are a brazed construction which ensures there is a large flat surface area, good for heat syncing the lug on the connecting busbar.
All our 4 hole terminals are manufactured from C106 seamless copper tube to BS EN 12449:1999 standards. They are Electro Tin plated to BS 1872:1974. Flat copper plate is also used where applicable.
This style of terminal has four stud holes. The standard hole size is M8 and hole centres are 35mm across the palm and 25mm down the palm of the terminal.  This ensures a very good electrical connection. A 4-hole design also reduces the risk of the lug vibrating and working itself loose, as it prevents lateral rotation – a significant advantage over a single hole design.
Our 4 hole lugs also have an inspection hole (window). This enables installers and inspectors to check for full and correct insertion of the conductor.   Lugs without an inspection window can be manufactured on request – we refer to these as a NIH lug.
A flared entry also ensures easy insertion of the cable into the lug.
All our 4 hole terminals are stamped on the palm with the cable size, to aid the correct selection of the appropriate tool and dies. Custom stud clearances and hole centres are available on request.
